This week of craziness...

Hello First Grade Families!

We have some special activities planned for next week! Student council is hosting a spirit week as well.

Monday: Student council’s “Wacky Hair Day”

Tuesday: Student council’s “Twin Day”

Wednesday: Student council’s “Scrabble Day”
(student’s can wear a letter on their shirt to make up a word with friends)

We will be caroling at Cove’s Edge 9:30-10:00, Schooner Cove 10:00-10:30 and Chase Point 10:30-11:00. Parents are welcome to join us. We would love to have students wear their most festive holiday outfits, antler headbands, Santa hats or anything red and green.

Thursday:  Student council’s “Ugly Sweater Day”

We will have a special holiday activity in first grade.  Students can wear their pajamas, bring a stuffed animal, enjoy hot cocoa, popcorn and watch the Polar Express movie.

Friday: Student council’s “Holiday Hat Day”

Thanks!

Dear Families,

This month the theme of our K - 3 experiential learning activities is “caring.” These activities will include listening to a read-aloud of the classic children’s story, The Giving Tree, making edible ornaments for the birds, and going to the Damariscotta River Association to hang the ornaments on trees.

For the outdoor portion of this field trip, please make sure your child has the following:

  1. A warm jacket, hat, and gloves/mittens,
  2. Footwear appropriate for walking outside with warm socks

The schedule for grades 1 is as follows:

First Grade - Thursday, December 7th (8:30 - 11:15)

Volunteers are welcome. Please let Jill Davis know if you can come at jdavis@aos93.org or call 563-3091. The bus will be departing GSB at 8:30.

Mrs. Davis, Mrs. Herrick, Mrs. Peaslee, and I are excited about spending the morning with your child focusing on this important theme of “caring,” especially during the holiday season.

Sincerely,

Kim Schaff

Tennis at the YMCA!

For the month of December, the first graders will be going to the YMCA for a half hour tennis class each week.  Mrs. Welch's class will go on Monday's from 1:30-2:00, Miss Lincoln's class will go on Tuesday's from 1:30-2:00 and Mrs. Verney's class will go on Wednesday's from 1:30-2:00.

#GivingTuesday was a HUGE success

Thanks to our GSB community, friends, families and generous donor's across the state and country, first grade had TWO projects fully fund on #GivingTuesday. We are so excited and want to thank all of you who shared our projects on social media or made a donation to our classroom. Your continued support is appreciated as we work hard to make sure our students have the tools and materials they need to learn. Mrs. Verney will be receiving a beautiful new easel (pictured below.) She will use the easel in all subject areas and it will provide another space for students to work during literacy work stations. Miss Lincoln will be adding to our leveled literacy library with sets of guided reading books to help some of our struggling readers. We can't wait to share photographs of our students using these materials after they arrive!
