Homework tonight!

In your child's take home folder you will find a double sided math homework sheet. They are to complete it independently. There is also reading homework tonight. They are bringing home a book from guided reading. They should read it to someone at home and put it back in their folder. Their homework(math sheet and book) need to be returned tomorrow. Don't forget to sign the homework log on the back of their folder so they can earn their first two stickers!

Welcome to First Grade

We are excited to start our school year with you! By now, you have received your welcome back letter and have found out what class your child will be in. We are working hard organizing our classrooms and getting settled for the new year.

A common question this time of year is, "Does our child need to bring any supplies?" The answer is... No. We provide the materials that students need to learn. Occasionally, throughout the year we will request certain items be sent in, such as paper plates or extra glue sticks. We also use Donor's Choose* to help stock our classrooms with the extras that make learning fun or the necessities that sometimes our budgets just don't allow for. Throughout the year we will share our Donor's Choose projects. You are welcome to make a donation (no donation is too small!) or share our project on social media!

*Donor's Choose is a not-for-profit organization that helps fund the requests of public school educators. For example, if a public school educator needs a projector or a set of leveled books they create a request for those materials. They would share their project with family, friends and the world. Once the project is funded, the materials are shipped. There are often matching grants for projects. Many celebrities and companies nation wide support public education my donating to individual classroom projects. Most recently, BJ's wholesale fully funded one of our projects. Also, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is doing a matching donation (for a limited time) if you enter GATES at checkout.
